I am Barbara Hallman, of Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. I have lived in this area all of my life, and in fact, I am a four generation native. I have been pressing flowers for several years now, after seeing pressed flower art displayed at a local garden park, and thinking, wow, I could do that! That inspiration led to a passion for learning all I could about pressing botanicals and then recreating nature through artwork using the pressed materials. I continue to refine my techniques and, through the Guild, continue to learn about this wonderful, intriguing art form. I sell my work on commission to friends, and donate work to my church for sale, and all of my friends are recipients of pressed flower works--cards, pictures, bookmarks, and other items. I love the idea of preserving nature's beauty and honoring the gifts nature has given us. I just got married to Ron in August, and we live with two dear cats, a fluffy black and white Lexus, and a delicate little calico, Kimba. Ron and I both work at the Department of Agriculture in the domestic nutrition assistance programs...child nutrition, Food Stamps, etc. In addition to my passion for growing and pressing flowers, I love to ski, cook, hike, travel, and bird watch. I also play handbells in two church choirs.
