I was born and raised in Germany. My first experience with pressing flowers was on my mother’s knee. Born shortly after World War II, we had to resort to making our own birthday and greeting cards. Naturally, whatever was in abundance was used for card making.

After falling in love and marrying my soldier husband James, I came to the United States and raised two sons. Pressing flowers fell on the back burner until my children were grown. I always kept pressing in case I needed to make a gift in a hurry. I had a shoebox in the closet filled to the brim with pressed flowers.

Then, I was invited to attend a lecture at an herb group, which had the topic of “PRESSING HERBS AND FLOWERS”. My friend Robin and I attended the event and after it was over, the speaker offered to sell her items. Robin bought a picture from the lady. I told her she could have saved her money; I could have made one for her just like the one she bought. My friend laughed and said to me: “I have never seen you make anything with pressed flowers”. (She didn’t know I was a closet-presser.) Needless to say, the challenge was on. I went home that night and created the same picture that she had purchased. At my next meeting with our Herb Society, of which I am a charter member, I showed her the picture I created. She stood there with her mouth wide open and could not believe it. Another member of our group asked if she could buy the picture from me. That was the beginning of BLUMEN ART.

In 2001 I bought my first computer and found the pressed flower group at the yahoo site. After a lot of postings and invitations from Guild members I knew I needed to check out the WWPFG. I have been a Guild member since August of 2002 and learned a great deal about pressing flowers and creating pressed flower art.

Years ago I grew flowers and greenery for wreath making, but since the demand on dried flowers had dwindled, I decided to stop growing them. I like to quilt, knit, crochet, read, cook, sew, and make all kinds of crafts. Needless to say, most of my time is consumed making pressed flower art. It’s my passion.

I am actively involved with our Herb Society and also teaching and lecturing on pressing flowers and herbs. To sell my creations, I participate at several Art and Craft Fairs each year and sell to gift shops and herb farms. I do not have a website, but you can visit me at:
